Role of the Lord Mayor
The Lord Mayor is a serving councillor and is elected by other councillors.
There has been a Lord Mayor in Sheffield since 1897, the same year that Sheffield Town Hall was opened by Queen Victoria.
The Lord Mayor:
- is mostly ceremonial, but they also chair full council meetings
- is the first Citizen of the City, representing over 500,000 people
- serves for one year
- often promotes local projects, businesses and events
- supports a local charity
Lord Mayor Awards
The Lord Mayor Awards celebrate the amazing people, organisations and groups who help make our city a better place.
There are a number of award categories, and anyone can nominate their local hero or heroes.
Inviting the Lord Mayor to an event
You can invite the Lord Mayor to an event by contacting lordmayor@sheffield.gov.uk. Please include appropriate details such as the date, time, place and type of event.
Please give at least 14 days notice as the Lord Mayor has a lot of engagements and civic duties. Due to this we cannot guarantee that the Lord Mayor will be available to attend every event.
