Stocksbridge Town Deal Board

Stocksbridge has been chosen to benefit from the Towns Fund and is invited to work with the Government to develop innovative regeneration plans.

The Towns Fund

In 2019 the government recognised that many towns had missed investment which was otherwise directed to cities. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) now the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, invited towns in England to develop proposals for a ‘Town Deal’ which forms part of a £3.6 billion Towns Fund. Stocksbridge applied for the fund and developed a Town Investment Plan.

The Town Deal Board and Investment Plan

The government has requested that a Town Deal Board must be set up by a Lead Authority to produce the investment plan – in this case Sheffield City Council. It must be made up of a mix of people reflecting Stocksbridge and its Council, including community and business representatives. The Board’s role is to define the vision and strategy for the town, and produce the Town Investment Plan which tells the government what funding is needed and why.

A plan was assessed and approved to go through to the next stage. The Board then developed the agreed projects and business cases in detail, which the government is assessing before releasing funding for implementation.

The Town Investment Plan, its governance, and any other relevant information will be shared on this page. Further information about the projects can also be found on the Welcome to Stocksbridge website.
