School budgets

The School Budgets Letter February 2022 will set out the maintained schools' budget settlement for the financial year 2022-23. This includes early estimates of funding being made available by the Government through the Pupil Premium Grant.

Please note the new information relating to Rates.  The DfE will be paying all mainstream school’s rates bills direct, including academies, from 1st April 2022, but Nursery Schools are out of scope and should still pay their rates bill. Mainstream Schools will receive a copy of the rates bill, but please DO NOT pay their rates bill, it will be for information ONLY.

Please download the documents below to see the full breakdown of Maintained Schools Indicative Budget Shares for 2022-23.

This information will assist in preparing for your budget setting process or interview with CYP Finance Business Partner staff (where you subscribe to this service), and for the final production of your school's spending plan for the financial year 2022-23.

The Significant Growth and Falling Rolls Funding Policies will be finalised at the later date of June this year.  This will set out the process and criteria for applying for any additional funding you may be eligible for relating to both Basic Need Growth and Falling Rolls.

Policies will be published at a later date, along with the list of basic need growth for 2022-23. Please contact us for further information or to apply for additional growth or falling rolls funding.

School budget statements

We’re required by law to prepare a schools’ budget statement each financial year (section 251 of the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009). The statement gives a comprehensive picture of our planned expenditure for each financial year, including:

  • how much of the education budget we intend to spend on items outside the Schools Budget
  • how much we’re proposing to retain centrally to spend on school-related services
  • how delegated Budget Shares for each individual school are calculated

We’ve provided downloadable versions of budget statements.

School Outturn Statements (Section 251)

Section 251 of the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 also requires us to prepare an Outturn Statement recording actual expenditure. We’ve provided these as downloadable documents.
