Winter road maintenance and gritting

There are over 2,200 grit bins on Sheffield’s roads. They are placed on roads which are not on priority gritting routes, as well as some side roads.

How to grit on your own property

We strongly advise you not to use our grit on your own property such as your driveway. If you wish to clear your driveway or footpaths, you can purchase grit salt from local building suppliers and DIY stores.
