Gleadless Valley Masterplan

A masterplan is a future investment plan to make an area work better. It looks at everything to do with an area, such as housing, open space, facilities, transport, health and employment, and suggests ways to make things better.

About the Gleadless Valley masterplan

Since 2018, Sheffield City Council have been working with partners and the local community to develop a long-term masterplan for Gleadless Valley.

Regeneration proposals take a long time to deliver, and this masterplan sets out plans for the next 10-plus years.

Our timeline shows what progress has been made so far and what is coming up.

  • a charity shop
  • shared workspace
  • information and advice space

To support the Gleadless Valley Foodbank, the Gleadless Valley Regeneration Team were able to rent empty units at Gaunt shops 187-189 Blackstock Road to the Foodbank at a cheaper rate.

The foodbank intend to open their charity shop at Blackstock Road over the Summer.

We are also working with our community partners to deliver more projects in the Valley.

Communication and Engagement Plan

Our Communication and Engagement plan was developed in July this year, outlining our goals and principles for interacting with the community, Members, MPs, and stakeholders. We shared this plan with our partners for their input and made updates based on their feedback. You can find a copy on this page.

Housing

The cost of living, including increased expenses for materials, labour, and other essential resources, continues to put pressure on our project's budget and timeline. We understand that this situation may raise concerns and questions, and we want to assure you that we are working with colleagues to look at options around how and when we can deliver each of the housing activities. We are keen to move forward as soon as we can, however this is taking some time to consider and fully understand how we move forward.

As soon as the delivery plan is complete, and approved, we will promptly share it with the community. We understand that having this information is important to you, and we are committed to keeping you informed every step of the way.

2024 update

The Gleadless Valley Regeneration Team has been a full team since May 2023. We are committed to keeping the community informed about the latest updates on the regeneration project.

Demolition of Paddock Hill and Castelayn

The Council received external funding to demolish Paddock Hill Care Home (Gleadless Road) and Castelayn Residential Home (Leighton Drive). These unused former care homes, called ‘brownfield sites’, will be replaced with affordable housing.

The funding for demolition comes from the Brownfield Land Release Fund 2 by One Public Estate (OPE). This was not originally included in the Gleadless Valley Masterplan, but provides an opportunity for more affordable homes to be built on the estate.

Shared and green spaces

We have some exciting news around the green space part of the project. The formal consultation period for the proposed green space at Spotswood is 6 February to 19 March and we would love to hear from you. You can find designs alongside the survey at the link below or email enquiregleadlessvalley@sheffield.gov.uk to request a paper copy.

We are also holding in-person consultation sessions on the following dates:

  • Gaunt Hub (Gaunt Shops): 1pm to 4 pm (27 Feb)
  • Terry Wright Centre (Newfield Green): 1pm 4pm (1 March)
  • Regeneration Team Callow Hub (Callow Place): 10am to 1pm (4 March)
  • TARA General Meeting (Terry Wright Centre): 7am to 9pm (12 March)
  • The Blackstock Pub (Newfield Green): 1pm to 4pm (13 March)
  • Holy Cross Church (Spotswood Mount): 10am to 1pm (14 March)

Once the consultation period closes, we will begin the approvals process to find a suitable contractor to carry out the work. Once this is complete, we will be able to confirm a clear timeframe for the work to start.

We are also working with the Council's Parks and Leisure Team to improve the Hemsworth football pitches. We hope to be able to share designs with you soon, ready to make improvements before the 2024 football season.

After speaking to community members, we are looking at options to have a Multi-Use Gaming Area (MUGA) on the Valley. This includes a feasibility process of where best to build it. More information on this will be shared soon.

Young people in the community

Young people's voices matter in this project and we want to help them understand what regeneration means for Gleadless Valley.
