We offer a wide range of fun and creative children’s activities.


These free, weekly sessions are a great way to meet other new parents and babies, get to know local people, and make new friends. They also feed your child’s imagination with stories, rhymes, and activities.

These weekly sessions are aimed at parents and pre-schoolers. They are a great way to meet other parents and for you and your children to make new friends. They also help your children to learn and get involved in creative fun.

Chatterbooks is a national network of book clubs for children aged 8 to 11 years. These groups are all about having fun and encouraging reading for pleasure. They meet monthly during term-time and are free. All participants receive a welcome pack.

Autism Friendly Hour

Each school holiday, the Central Children’s Library offers an exclusive open hour for families and children with sensory or autistic spectrum needs. A quiet, welcoming environment with sensory activities and books. Staff will help register children with the library (if not already members) and guide them to areas of interest.

Suitable for children of all ages.

Young People’s Writing Group

If you’re a secret scribbler, vocal wordsmith, closet novelist or part-time poet Hive South Yorkshire runs a young writers group for you.

  • Central Library -  fortnightly, Wednesday, 5:30 pm, booking via Hive South Yorkshire
