Citizenship Ceremonies

We carry out Citizenship Ceremonies for anyone who was granted British Citizenship after 1 January 2004.

Ceremonies are held in the Town Hall every Tuesday afternoon.

A civic dignitary, such as the Lord Mayor, the Lord Lieutenant of the County or the High Sheriff will give a welcoming speech and will present you with a Naturalisation Certificate.

The ceremony ends with photographs and refreshments.

To become a British citizen, applicants must meet basic language qualifications and complete a Language and Life in the UK test.

You can prepare for the test by following the ‘Life in Britain’ online course, which includes practice tests and revision tools. You will need your library card number to access the course.
