Apply for a grant for a cleaner vehicle you've already bought

What you need to apply

Your new vehicle details

  • the number plate (vehicle registration number) 
  • date of purchase 
  • confirm that you don’t get charged to drive in Sheffield’s clean air zone

Your old vehicle details

  • the number plate (vehicle registration number) 
  • date of sale (taxi's only - where no sale has occurred the date in which any transfer of ownership took place) 
  • confirm that it would be charged to drive in Sheffield’s clean air zone
Check your old and new vehicles

Use the government checker to see if your vehicles will be charged or not to drive in the 

clean air zone. GOV.UK: Drive in a clean air zone

Your bank details

  • your bank account number 
  • your sort code

Once you have submitted your application, we will undertake some basic eligibility checks, you will then be contacted to provide the following: 

  • the V5C log book document for both vehicles (or V888 document if V5C not available) 
  • A recent UK bank statement (within the last 3 months) 
  • proof of home address if you are a resident using your vehicle for personal use or if you are a self-employed individual with your business registered at your residential address
  • proof of sale - old vehicle 
  • proof of ownership (taxi's only)
  • proof of purchase – new vehicle 

Your application will not be considered complete until all of the evidence has been provided.



Please note that cash transactions relating to proof of purchase or sale will not be accepted on this scheme.

How to apply

You can apply if you can provide required information electronically.

Any business caught falsifying records to gain grant money may face prosecution. Any funding will be subject to clawback as grant may be paid in error.
