Leaving the European Union

The UK left the European Union (EU) on the 31 January 2020. Since then it has been within a transition period that maintains most arrangements as they were before the UK left the EU. The transition period for the UK leaving the EU ends on 31 December 2020.

From January 1 2021 the UK will no longer be part of the EU's Single Market and Customs Union. The UK will automatically fall into World Trade Organisation terms unless a deal is agreed between the UK and EU before the end of the transition period.

Major changes will take effect on 1 January 2021 whether a trade deal is agreed or not. Free movement of people will end and businesses trading with the EU will have to follow new rules.

Please use the information below to find out how to prepare.
