Open space notices

We have a legal obligation to publicly share any plans for open space ‘disposals’ (the sale or lease of land) in parks, woodland or green spaces. This is usually done by sharing notices in local newspapers for two consecutive weeks and making any plans available at our offices in the Moorfoot building. However, to make it easier to access this information, as well as posting in newspapers we will also share notices and associated plans on this webpage.

There is opportunity for the public to comment on any proposal posted and we will consider all objections we receive. Objections to any intended disposal must be made in writing to the contact details on each notice within the required timeframe.

All outstanding open space notices will be available to view on this page.

Correction: Whirlow Brook Hall open space notice

On 9 December 2021 Sheffield Parks and Countryside posted a notice in the Sheffield Telegraph that mistakenly referred to the disposal of Whirlow Brook Hall. This was incorrect and misleading. It should have referred to the disposal of the disused shelter and toilet block in Whirlow Brook Park instead. This has caused significant concern and we are sorry for the unnecessary confusion and worry this has caused.

No land at the hall or park is being sold. We are planning to turn the currently derelict shelter and public toilets in the park into a cafe. The existing building, and the area next to it on the driveway, will be developed and leased to a private cafe provider. We are legally required to use the term ‘disposal’ because of the length of the lease we are proposing (over 7 years).

We have been working with the Friends of Whirlow Brook Park on this proposal for several years. We are really excited about this fantastic opportunity to enhance the facilities in this wonderful park.

A consultation on the plans has been extended until 20 January 2021 to give everyone the opportunity to share their views. If you have objections to this proposal you can send them by 20 January by email to propertyservices@sheffield.gov.uk or by post to:
