Join the library
If you live or work in Sheffield, you can get a library card to access library services. It's free to join, and you'll be able to borrow books, use the eLibrary, attend events and access our information services.
Access our eLibrary
To access the eLibrary, you need to apply to join the library. We will email your library card number to you as soon as your application to join is processed. You can then immediately use our eLibrary.

You can go into any library and join or you can apply online. Applying online saves time and we'll let you know when your library card is available to collect.
Sheffield Libraries App
The easiest way to manage your library membership is online using our app.
You can use the app to:
- browse and search our extensive collections of books and other materials
- manage your loans and place reservations
- directly access our eLibrary to enjoy eBooks, eMagazines and eAudio
- scan the ISBN barcode on any book to see if you can borrow or reserve the item from the library
- get library news and information including opening hours, locations, contact details, and links to our social media
- book your place at a workshop or talk
- access linked accounts, including your child's membership
