Local Area Committees

The primary purpose of the Local Area Committees (LACs) is to promote the involvement of local people in the democratic process and to bring decision making closer to local people.

Why you should get involved

LACs give you the chance to influence decision making, share your opinion and contribute to positive changes in your community. LACs are your opportunity to say what you would like to see improved in your area.

The community plans

About 7,000 Sheffielders took part in our local area survey in autumn 2021. Your LAC teams looked carefully at what you told us, and saw what your biggest concerns were.

Each LAC then made a community plan, agreed at its public meeting in March 2022. The plans explain the community’s priorities and how the LAC intends to work on these in the coming year.

Find out more on your individual LAC pages.

Watch our video to find out more about Local Area Committees and how to get involved.

Other ways you can get involved
  • sign up to our local / citywide updates via Gov Delivery or the Next-Door App
  • share your views online or via the area social media pages
  • submit a question or raise an issue with your LAC (in person or online)

  • live stream the meeting or view a recording to watch a specific section

If you want to make a difference to your community, then this is for you.

Areas of the committees

Sheffield is grouped into 28 areas called wards. There are seven Local Area Committees, and each one is made up of four wards. Each committee is composed of the elected members for those wards.

The Committee does not and will not include council officers, representatives of partner organisations or members of the public, although they may be involved in a supporting or advisory capacity.

There are three councillors per ward, representing you, a resident of that area. Councillors will work with residents, businesses and community groups at these public meetings to discuss how money can be spent and how the area can be improved.

Finding out your ward

If you are unsure about which ward you're in please see the Electoral Ward page

The LAC webpages will be edited to reflect any changes to councillors following the election on 5 May 2022.

View the election results for your ward on the SheffNews. website.
