City Centre Ambassadors

City Centre Ambassadors provide a service to visitors, residents, businesses and retailers in the city centre.

We wear distinctive red jackets and shirts that display our logo and work 7 days a week:

  • Monday to Saturday 7.30 am to 8 pm
  • Sundays 7.30 am to 6 pm

What the Ambassadors do

We focus on 3 main areas, which are welcoming visitors to the city, ensuring that the city is safe and keeping the city clean. 

Welcoming visitors
  • welcome and give information to visitors
  • respond to incidents and accidents
  • build community spirit through social events
  • keep a watchful eye over the public realm areas, including the Peace Gardens and Winter Gardens, Barkers Pool, St Paul’s Square, Howard Street, The Moor and Sheaf Square
Safer City
  • assist in preventing street and car crime by offering high visibility patrols, advice and issuing vulnerable vehicle notices
  • reunite lost children with their parents or guardians
  • work in partnership with South Yorkshire Police to uphold the Alcohol Restriction Zone
  • assist in enforcement initiatives
  • help to reduce anti-social behaviour, including begging
  • assist with stewarding city centre events
Cleaner City
  • arrange and monitor waste and litter removal
  • remove fly posters
  • advise on graffiti removal
  • report highway defects, broken street furniture and street lighting
  • issue fixed penalty notices for litter, fly posting and graffiti
