Resident parking permit

You must apply for, renew, cancel or change a resident’s permit online. 

Resident parking permits are for residents living within a parking permit zone. There are exceptions if the planning consent states that an address is a car free property.

Resident parking permits are now paperless, virtual permits (similar to tax discs).

Number of permits

In most cases you can apply for two permits per household, however you can apply for a third permit and we may ask for additional information.

You may only apply for one permit per household for residents of Holme Lane, Loxley New Road and Vaughton Hill zones. These can be used in any vehicle in the household.

Charges for residents' permits

City Centre inner zone

  • £100 if your Vehicle Excise Duty band is A* or B*
  • £200 if your Vehicle Excise Duty band is C or higher

City Centre outer zone

  • £50 if your Vehicle Excise Duty band is A* or B*
  • £100 if your Vehicle Excise Duty band is C or higher

Other zones: first permit

  • £18 if your Vehicle Excise Duty band is A* or B*
  • £36 if your Vehicle Excise Duty band is C or higher

Other zones: additional permits

  • £36 if your Vehicle Excise Duty band is A* or B*
  • £72 if your Vehicle Excise Duty band is C or higher

*the vehicle was registered before 28 February 2001 and has an engine capacity of 1,000cc or less.

Exception: no charge for Holme Lane, Loxley New Road and Vaughton Hill zones.

Renewing your resident’s parking permit

Permits are usually issued for up to 12 months. It is your responsibility to ensure your permit is renewed.

Business, trade & utilities permits

Business parking permits are for qualifying businesses within a parking permit zone. 

There are two types of business permit available:

  • a vehicle specific one (valid for one vehicle only), or
  • a pool permit  

You must apply or renew online for a business permit. Please ensure you select the correct link for the type of business permit you require.

Business permits for a specific vehicle registration

Vehicle specific business parking permits are now paperless, virtual permits (similar to tax discs).

Pool business permits

Pool business permits allow staff at a business to share use of the permit to park near the business. A physical permit will be issued by post. The permit can only be used in one vehicle at a time. Replacement pool permits will not be issued.

Trade utilities permits

These allow tradespersons to park whilst they are working in Sheffield permit zones. These permits are for voucher books so please order in advance.

They are not valid in the city centre, Falding Street, Holme Lane, Loxley New Road and Vaughton Hill parking zones.

Number of permits

For business permits you may have 2 annual permits per business.

There is no limit to the number of trade permits you can buy.

Charges for business permits

First permit

  • £36 if your Vehicle Excise Duty band is A* or B*
  • £72 if your Vehicle Excise Duty band is C or higher

Additional permit

  • £72 if your Vehicle Excise Duty band is A* or B*
  • £144 if your Vehicle Excise Duty band is C or higher

*or if the vehicle was registered before 28 February 2001 and has an engine capacity of 1,000cc or less.

Permits are usually issued for up to 12 months. It is your responsibility to ensure your permit is renewed.

Charges for trade permits

Trade permits costs £62.50 for a batch of 25 daily permits. They are valid until midnight on the day of use.

These permits cannot be refunded or exchanged.

Use of trade permits

The permit should be validated and displayed in the vehicle promptly after parking.

Business permits are not issued for the city centre, Falding Street, Holme Lane, Loxley New Road and Vaughton Hill parking zones.

Visitor Parking Permits

You can apply for paper visitor parking permit books online, these are for people visiting you at home.

Number of permits

You can buy up to 150 visitor permits per year (we may consider discretionary applications for more permits)

Charges for visitors' permits

It costs £12.50 for a batch of 25 daily permits. These are valid on the day of use until 10am the following day.

These permits cannot be refunded or exchanged.

Use of visitor permits

The permit should be validated and displayed in the vehicle promptly after your visitor has arrived. 

Instead of using visitor parking permits, visitors can use nearby pay and display or unrestricted parking to leave more parking for regular permit holders.

If you have contractors doing work on your house who need parking you can give them visitor parking permits. If the contractor needs parking for more than 2 weeks they should apply for a trade permit.
