These parking permits are for:
- NHS qualified medical practitioners
- NHS medical practitioners carrying essential equipment or drugs to treat a patient resident
If you don't work for the NHS
If you are a carer working for a non NHS mental health or healthcare carer organisation, you should apply for a carer's organisation parking permit.
If you work for the NHS
NHS organisations can apply for an All area medical/carer permit which can be used by their staff to park in Sheffield’s parking zones while treating patients.
The permit is a paper disc with a timer which allows staff to park in any permit zone outside the city centre for a limited time.
There is a system issue that will prevent the renewal of paper version of the All Area Medical/Carer Permits. You will need to allow your permit to expire, then as early as possible within the 14 day grace period, buy a new permit.
Search our map to find parking zones. These are the zones that require permits for on street parking.
Exceptions
You can’t use the permit to park in the city centre or Falding Street, Hawley Street Flats Car Park, Holme Lane, Loxley New Road and Vaughton Hill parking zones
Cost
Each permit costs £10 and is valid for a year. If you need to apply for a replacement permit it will cost £2.50.
How long a permit will last
Permits are issued for up to 12 months. It is your responsibility to ensure your permit is renewed.
Where you can use the permit
Carers can only use the permit for carrying out visits to clients or patients, not to park at their workplace or home.
You can park in any designated permit bay in a parking zone for 2 hours at a time. A permit does not guarantee you parking directly at an address.
You should make sure both the permit and timer disc are clearly displayed, that the vehicle is not parked in the same space for more than 2 hours and that the arrival time is set accurately.
If the client or patient regularly needs longer care visits, they may be eligible to apply for a resident carer permit. Clients or patients who require an occasional longer visit may provide a visitor permit.
