COVID-19 (coronavirus)

With face to face courses on hold, we have been adapting our learning offer so that it is accessible from wherever you are working. We are adding more each month and will include alternatives to face-to-face courses via e-Learning, online blended learning, as well as skills knowledge and understanding workbooks.

The HR Learning and Development Service has a wide range of training courses available for people who work in social care organisations from the independent, private and voluntary sector.  

You can also access our training if you are an Individual Employer (IE) employing a Personal Assistant (PA) to help you meet your care and support needs.

How to access training courses

Learning is available through our online system, the Sheffield Development Hub, where you will find details about all courses and any costs. 

If your organisation hasn't accessed learning and development through us before then you'll need to request an application form from us so that we can assess if you're eligible for our training courses. The requests need to come from the manager of an organisation.

Organisations that have previously accessed our training but don't have user accounts, or Individual Employers (IE) employing a Personal Assistant (PA), should contact us for a user account request form.

Learning and Development Brochure

The brochure outlines our learning and development offer for employees and managers working in the social care independent, private and voluntary sector (IPV).

Our Learning and Development Service provides the skills, knowledge and development needed to shape a skilled, flexible and vibrant workforce. We offer a wide range of development services including consultancy support, a diverse range of skills and knowledge courses and qualifications.

Infection Prevention and Control

Good infection prevention and control are essential to ensure that people who use health and social care services receive safe and effective care.

Everyone involved in providing care should be educated about preventing infection, and should receive training in keeping hands clean, using protective equipment (such as gloves and aprons) and the safe use of sharps.

Effective prevention and control of infection must be part of everyday practice and be applied consistently by everyone.

There is a list of available resources to Sheffield Adult Health and Social Care Providers to support the delivery of Infection Prevention and Control learning.

Skills, knowledge and understanding workbooks

These workbooks provide another opportunity to complete required learning and refreshers. They are an alternative to taught courses and e-Learning, giving learners another route to complete their learning in a variety of subjects. 

They are now available to download from the Hub as Information and Assessment booklets which are then completed and submitted to be assessed and quality assured by the Learning and Development team. The cost is £15 per workbook.

Our HR Learning and Development Service are in a position to support you to access Skills for Care funding, towards health and social care diplomas, and a number of certificates and awards. Access to funding is linked to registration with Skills for Care.

Workforce Development Fund

Organisations accessing the workforce development fund will be expected to use this funding to support employees to undertake qualifications and associated learning.

If any of your employees are completing their diplomas, selected awards or certificates in Health and Social Care at Levels 2, 3, 4 and 5, you can access this funding. Learning and Development Officer Joanne Nicholson is available to discuss this with you in more detail.

You can claim funding for all of the units completed between 1 January 2020 to 31 May 2021, regardless of which provider you use, or which awarding organisation the provider uses. 

The unit(s) certification date must be within this period to be eligible for the funding. Units can only be submitted for the Workforce Development Fund once the full qualification has been completed.

Moorfoot Learning Centre

Moorfoot Learning Centre is the main training venue for the Learning and Development Service and is used to accommodate our core training programme.

It has 6 training rooms that have been designed to provide training using presentations and Smart Board interactive learning.

All training rooms have comfortable seating with some specialist chairs available for anyone who suffers from chronic back pain. We also have two mobile high quality loop systems. Moorfoot and the Learning Centre have access for wheelchair users. There are a limited number of disabled parking bays at Moorfoot. If you need to book a space please contact us.

Contact us as soon as possible if you have any particular requirements so that arrangements can be made before the course commences.
