Outrages in Sheffield research guide

During the 19th century, Sheffield became one of the main centres for trade union organisation and agitation in the UK.

In the 1860s, the conflict between capital and labour reached new heights culminating in a series of explosions and murders carried out by union militants. These actions, which came to a head in 1866 - 1867, became known as the Sheffield outrages.
