Eat Well Sheffield campaign

Eat Well may mean different things to different people but for us this means, having enough food that is:

  • affordable
  • tasty
  • safe
  • improves our health

There is often a lot of hidden sugar, salt or saturated fats in processed food. Cooking from scratch is one of the simplest ways of controlling what you eat and how much you eat.

Eating unhealthily can create possible health effects such as:

  • coronary heart disease
  • some cancers
  • poor mental health
  • increased tooth decay

This puts a great strain on health services but most of all will prevent many of us from having the quality of life that we deserve.

10 simple steps
  • eat 5-a-day of fruit & veg
  • think variety
  • get portion size right for you
  • cook from scratch
  • reduce the salt and sugar that you add
  • cut down on saturated fats
  • alcohol & sugary drinks are high in calories
  • drink more water
  • handle food safely
  • take time to enjoy food with family and friends whenever you can

If you are thinking about making a big change in terms of your diet always consult your GP or specialised NHS services first.
