This local list is a register of heritage assets that contribute to the distinctiveness of the local historic environment but are not covered by national designation, such as:
- Listed Buildings
- Scheduled Monuments
- Registered Parks and Gardens
- and other spaces
Being on the Local List highlights the building, place or site in question. It allows its significance to be considered in planning applications that could affect it or its setting.
Local listing does not provide the same protection as national listing or scheduling. However, knowledge of the presence of a valued heritage asset at the beginning of the planning process means that they can be considered from an early stage, which enables a better outcome for all parties.
Locally listing a heritage asset during the planning process
A property can be nominated for the local list during the planning process. If this could affect the planning recommendation and decision, the applicant will be informed at the assessment stage. Both the applicant and the property owner will be asked to comment before a final decision is made.
How to nominate an asset for inclusion on the list
Information on the assessment criteria and how to nominate candidates is available on the South Yorkshire Local Heritage List campaign website.
Historic Environment Record
