Children’s zero fare travel pass
Some children are entitled to a Zero Fare Pass for free travel within South Yorkshire between home and school.
Check if your child is eligible
Your child must fit one of the following criteria:
- the school* is beyond the walking distance of: 2 miles for children below the age of 8, or 3 miles for children 8 and over
- your child is from a ‘low income family’ and is 8-11 years old (primary school age), and they are living more than 2 miles from the nearest school
- your child is from a ‘low income family’ and is of secondary school age (aged 11 to 16) and attending a qualifying school that is between 2 and 6 miles from home (as long as there are not 3 or more nearer suitable qualifying schools with available places)
- your child is from a ‘low income family’ and is of secondary school age (aged 11 to 16) and attending their nearest school preferred on the grounds of religion or belief, between 2 and 15 miles from home
*The school is the catchment or nearest school with an available place in your child's year group. If a catchment or nearer school has a place available in the child's group, the application may be refused.
Read further guidance and details in the Home to School Transport Policy.
There may also be exceptional circumstances that could qualify your child for a Zero Fare Travel Pass.
