As part of our response to Covid-19, we made £2 million available to support the city centre, district centres and local centres to reopen and get back on their feet. Applications for the fund are now closed but you can find out what we are funding on this page.
We received over 100 applications in total, 61 for the small fund (up to £50k) and 40 Expressions of Interest for large projects (up to £200k), 7 of which were successful.
Some of the projects that we've supported so far:
Summer in the Outdoor City
The fund supported 11 events that took place as part of Summer in the Outdoor City. This gave people a reason to come into the city centre and spend more time there, helping support the economic recovery of shops and businesses in the centre. We received feedback on these events which we will use for an independent evaluation report on the fund.
District Centre Projects
Four large District Centre projects in Hillsborough, Firth Park, Walkley and Broomhill received funding. All demonstrated a specific local need and set out a response that reflected the local character. We have also approved funding for smaller district centre projects, including in Chapeltown and Totley.
Some district centres have developed Christmas activities and there will be lights and festive events in the lead up to Christmas in Hillsborough, Walkley, Firth Park and Chapeltown. You can find out more about Christmas events on Welcome to Sheffield.
