Your offer

Once the bidding cycle closes on a Tuesday evening, the system reviews all eligible bids and sorts them based on your band and application date.

How offers are made

How your bid is ranked depends on how the property was advertised:

  • Waiting Time properties; these are offered to Band D applicants first, starting with the oldest application date – if no one from Band D accepts, the offer moves down to Bands A, B, C and E
  • Housing Register properties; these are offered to applicants in Band A first, then down through Bands B, C, D and E – all in order of application date
  • First Come First Served properties; these are offered to the first person who places an eligible bid, regardless of band or application date – you must still meet the basic eligibility criteria

What happens when your bid is successful

If your bid is at the top of the list and you meet all the criteria:

  • we’ll contact you directly and check you are still interested
  • we will invite you to view the property as soon as possible
  • please note: some properties are advertised before they are fit to let, so there may be a short delay before a viewing can be arranged
  • you may be able to accept and sign up for the home quickly during or shortly after the viewing

We don’t contact unsuccessful bidders, but you can log in to your Sheffield Property Shop account to see your final bid position.

Can your offer be withdrawn

Yes. This is known as bypassed – even if you're in first place we might not offer you the property if:

  • you have a housing-related debt
  • there’s a history of anti-social behaviour linked to you or your household
  • your circumstances have changed during the bidding cycle (such as your priority ends or eligibility changes)

Lettings results

We publish letting results on the Sheffield Property Shop website after each property is allocated. These show:

  • the band and effective date of the successful applicant
  • how many people bid for the property

This helps you understand how popular certain properties are and make more informed decisions in future bidding rounds.
