Accepting an offer
In most cases, if you’re happy with the property:
- you’ll be asked to sign the tenancy agreement at the viewing
- if this isn’t possible, we’ll arrange another appointment
Once the tenancy agreement is signed:
- you officially become the tenant
- your housing application will be closed
- you won’t be able to re-apply for 2 years
This applies whether you’re accepting a Sheffield City Council home or a Housing Association property.
If you accept a First Come First Served property and re-register after two years, you will be able to have your original application date reinstated.
Refusing an offer
In Bands A to C:
If you have a priority award, you should speak to your awarding officer before refusing. Refusing a property could affect your priority status.
In Band D to E:
If you decide to refuse the offer it will be removed from your application and you’ll be able to continue bidding on other homes.
- you can receive a maximum of three offers within a 12-month period
- for Band D if you refuse all three, you’ll be moved to Band E for 12 months
- for Band E if you refuse all three, your application will be cancelled and you’ll be unable to reapply for 12 months
Furniture and household items
Most Sheffield City Council and Housing Association properties are let without any furniture or household items. We have provided a list of useful items and charities that can support you with secondhand furniture.
As well, in some circumstances, we can offer a furniture package at a weekly cost, which is added to your rent payments.
