Bidding for a Council home

Once you've registered for a home, follow the step-by-step guide to bidding

Understanding the process of how to bid for a home.

  1. Housing priorities and bands

Understand how Bands help prioritise housing applications based on your level of need.

  2. Eligibility and how to bid

Once you're accepted onto the Housing Register, you'll get access to your own account on the Sheffield Property Shop website.

  3. Matching bids made

You can place bids on up to three properties each week. Your bids are then matched to homes based on your band, eligibility and the type of advert.

  4. Your offer

Once the bidding cycle closes on a Tuesday evening, the system reviews all eligible bids and sorts them based on your band and application date. If you’re successful, we’ll contact you with the next steps.

  5. Viewing a property

If your bid is successful, you’ll be invited to view the property before making a final decision. Here's what to expect and what happens next.

  6. Accepting or refusing an offer

After viewing the property, you'll decide whether to accept or refuse the offer. Here's what happens in either case and how it affects your housing application.
