Carers’ Delivery Plan and Strategy

Learn how we’re working to support unpaid carers in Sheffield and how you can get involved.

We want carers in Sheffield to feel recognised, valued and supported to live well while caring for someone. Our Carers’ Strategy sets out how we aim to achieve that, and our Delivery Plan outlines the practical steps we’re taking.

About the Carers’ Strategy

The Young Carer, Parent and Adult Carer Strategy was updated in February 2025. It commits to helping carers:

  • live a life of their own alongside caring
  • choose to care and stop caring without judgement
  • access the same opportunities as everyone else in work, education and leisure

What carers told us

We’ve worked with unpaid carers to continue to review and refresh our strategy since it was first written in 2016.

Our carers told us that:

  • the original commitments still matter and reflect what carers need
  • Sheffield should be a welcoming and supportive place for carers to live and thrive
  • a plan was needed to ensure commitments in the strategy became a reality so change could happen

That’s why we’ve focused on turning priorities into action.

About the Carers’ Delivery Plan

The Delivery Plan sets out what we’ll do to bring our strategy to life. It’s shaped by carers and delivered in partnership with local organisations including:

  • Sheffield City Council
  • Sheffield Carers Centre
  • Sheffield Young Carers
  • Sheffield Integrated Care Board
  • Sheffield Teaching Hospitals
  • University of Sheffield

Most importantly, unpaid carers are directly involved in guiding the plan and holding us to account.

How to get involved
