A proactive cross-party approach to the Council’s financial sustainability will be taken to manage the challenging budget situation which Sheffield City Council, like many other local authorities, faces.
Over the past 13 years, Sheffield, along with many other local authorities, has seen significant reductions in funding from central government. Alongside this, demand for services is rising.
More people in Sheffield who need support are living independently and well at home because of work between health and care services to prevent readmission to hospital.
A total of £400,000 of funding, split over five years, has been committed to the Compassionate Sheffield Programme, to help support the local community with their experiences of death and bereavement.
Proactive steps are being taken to ensure the Council remains able to set out a balanced budget in the long-term, including transforming services to run in a more sustainable and efficient way.
