A proactive cross-party approach to the Council’s financial sustainability will be taken to manage the challenging budget situation which Sheffield City Council, like many other local authorities, faces.
Over the past 13 years, Sheffield, along with many other local authorities, has seen significant reductions in funding from central government. Alongside this, demand for services is rising.
Proactive steps are being taken to ensure the Council remains able to set out a balanced budget in the long-term, including transforming services to run in a more sustainable and efficient way.
Today (Thursday 21 December 2023), at Sheffield City Council’s Extraordinary Strategy and Resources Policy Committee, Councillors were given a positive, but realistic, update on the financial outlook for the council and the budget for 2024/25.
An independent report into Sheffield City Council’s handling and management of Freedom of Information Requests relating to both its historic management of street trees and general requests has found that it has not intentionally withheld information, but that practices used to record and label information were ‘inappropriate’.
A grant from the Chewing Gum Task Force, administered by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, will help Sheffield City Council clean up gum and reduce gum littering.
