Support available for combating damp and mould this winter

Advice on how to combat damp and mould within your home is available now that Autumn is here and the colder, wetter months set in.

Sheffield City Council understands that many people will be worried about or living with damp and mould in their homes over the winter.

Advice is available for owner occupiers, private tenants and Council tenants on the Sheffield Directory.

Information about how damp and mould can affect your health, details about raising any concerns with your landlord or our Housing Repairs Service, and information about escalating concerns if the problem is not addressed is available at the dedicated Sheffield Directory page.

There is also information for owner occupiers, with some pointers on what to look for in your home and what you may be able to do to reduce issues with damp, mould and condensation.

Private landlords can also find advice and information about damp and mould in the homes they are renting out on the Sheffield City Council Website.

Sheffield City Council also has a regular newsletter to help private landlords across the city. Landlords who are interested in joining the mailing list should email the Landlord Support team. Helpful leaflets have also been produced, alongside a checklist for landlords. These are available to send electronically or through the post. These can be requested by emailing the Landlord Support team.

Damp and mould in any home is a major concern and affects our quality of life. It’s an issue nationally and we want to make sure Sheffield’s residents get the help they need.

We’d recommend checking out all the advice available to you, whether you are an owner-occupier, private landlord, private tenant or one of our Council tenants. There is advice on what you can do to combat damp and mould in your home. For our tenants, our Damp and Mould Action Plan ensures we stay on top of property maintenance. Tell us about damp problems and we’ll try to keep it out of our social housing because we recognise the importance of this to people’s health.
