The Run is the seventh film produced by CAN Digital and award-winning producers ReelTwentyFive.
The film focuses on Tom, an 11-year-old boy, looking at his contrasting needs to run. Whether that be away from danger, away from a chaotic home life, to get to school in time for breakfast club because he’s hungry, or with running as a sport.
The film looks at how he tries to deal with these challenges himself, then with the support of his new foster family. The film ends with Tom taking part in an athletics tournament, running in a stadium.
“The message of this project is very simple, but so important – we need foster carers.
“This sentiment applies across the country, which is why this project has grown into a national campaign. And we hear that message right here in Sheffield too. Children having a sense that they belong within their school, their home and their community is one of our key values. Foster families are crucial to helping bring that sense of belonging and security.
“We hope this new film highlights the valuable role foster carers play in our communities and inspires those who have maybe been thinking about doing it themselves to step forward.”
Cllr Dawn Dale, Chair of Sheffield City Council’s Education, Children’s and Families Committee
Local authority fostering services are under pressure like never before as more children need a safe, stable home. This is combined with increased competition from independent fostering agencies to recruit foster carers.
If you have been considering taking your first steps towards becoming a foster carer with your local authority, reach out to the fostering team here at Sheffield City Council via their dedicated website.

The film received its national premiere at the Everyman cinema in Birmingham yesterday evening (Thursday 9th October).
