Sheffield DocFest: Makers of 'Comparsa' bring slice of South America to Sheffield city centre

International filmmakers put on a free pop-up show in Tudor Square, last night.

Sheffield has been home to the UK's leading documentary film festival - DocFest - for over three decades.

Every year producers, filmmakers and talent from the industry travel to Sheffield from across the globe.

This year, the event is hosting the World Premier of ‘Comparsa’, a film that explores themes of resilience, sisterhood, and resistance in the face of systemic gender-based violence in Guatemala.

Last night (19 June 2025), they celebrated the premier taking place here in Sheffield. The makers of Comparsa brought a slice of South America to the city, right in the middle of Tudor Square.

Local residents and DocFest attendees were invited to immerse themselves Guatemalan culture. The pop-up event saw fire performances, and a street circus performance accompanied by batucada beats.
