Good luck to everyone receiving their GCSE results today

This year’s cohort of students and pupils sitting their GCSEs will be opening their results today.

Sheffield City Council is wishing everyone good luck - and offers praise to our students and their schools for their achievements and hard work.

“As always, there will be a lot of nervous excitement felt by many attending their school or educational setting today.

“Many will be stood alongside their friends and loved ones to get their GCSE results and see how their years in the school system have paid off.

“I’d like to praise all of you for everything you have put into this journey. There has undoubtedly been a lot of hard work put into this period and we hope people get the good news they have been hoping for.”

Cllr Dawn Dale, Chair of the Education, Children, and Families Policy Committee at Sheffield City Council

Help and support available for next steps:

As with every exam results day, there will be those opening up their results today and not seeing the grades they had hoped for.

If this is the case, there are options available for you moving forward.

School pastoral teams and academic leads are there to guide and support, helping you to assess what options will help you. That could be re-sitting an exam, an appeal against a grade you’ve been given or choosing to follow an alternative programme of study.

For those either at school or in other learning environments who need support on what’s next for them - whether that is employment, education or training - the Council’s Community Youth Services helpline for 16-to-18 year-olds can help.

The team assists with writing CVs and other information, advice and guidance on careers and help with job seeking, apprenticeships, employment or training applications, as well as interview coaching.

The Community Youth Services Team is available on 01142 734462, from Monday to Friday between 1pm to 5pm. You can also email them here.

“Learning – as with life itself – doesn’t always take the path we had planned for. But that doesn’t signal the end of a journey for anyone.

“If today hasn’t quite brought the results you had wanted then do not lose heart. There are plenty of options open to you for following your hopes and aspirations. Reach out to those who can help.”

Cllr Dawn Dale, Chair of the Education, Children, and Families Policy Committee at Sheffield City Council

City-wide results showing the grades that students achieved will be available in the autumn.
