What WhatsApp and Messenger Channels are
Both social media channels are owned by Meta and provide a direct line of communication between the council and the public, offering a convenient way to receive timely updates and engage with important content.
They are:
-
one-way broadcasting platforms providing single message alerts
-
entirely opt-in or out at any time
-
used by a range of organisations including news publishers, football clubs, local and national governments
Find and follow
WhatsApp Channels can be found in the 'Updates' tab on the platform.
Messenger Channels can be found by visiting a page's profile and tapping 'channels'. When joined, a channel will appear in chats.

Never miss a beat
Turn on notifications on our WhatsApp and Messenger channels by clicking the bell symbol in the top right corner of each channel.
When this is ‘unmuted’, notifications are turned on meaning you will get an alert direct to your phone when there’s a new post on that channel.
You can mute channel notifications when you wish. When the bell appears with a line through it, it is muted.
