Exhibit showcases 75-year relationship between Sheffield and the German city of Bochum

Sheffield and the city of Bochum in Germany have been twinned for 75 years, this year.

In celebration of this, and to inform residents of the history of the twinning, a very special exhibit has been put on display in Sheffield's Central Library.

The exhibition has been developed in collaboration with Sheffield City Council and the University of Sheffield. It showcases both the civic relationship between the Council and Stadt Bochum, as well as the importance of community and grassroots links between organisations in both cities.

Items on display include artefacts from the Sheffield City Archives, including photo albums, small civic gifts and important documents such as the declaration of peace signed in 1983.

A number of items have also been donated by community groups including Wisewood Junior FC who have held an annual exchange with a football team in Bochum since 1991, and the Philharmonic Chorus who have been linked with their Bochum equivalents since 2006.

This weekend (16 – 18 August 2025) is the final weekend to see the exhibition on the ground floor of Sheffield’s Central Library.
