If you are unable to complete your payment online, you can pay by our automated payment line (0114 273 5249). Alternatively, you can call the telephone number on your bill/invoice and a member of staff can take payments over the phone.
We are now taking action against tenants who are not paying their rent or arrears and are not engaging with us. It is so important to get in touch with us if you are unable to pay your rent or arrears.
Call us on 0114 293 0000 as soon as possible to avoid any future legal action.
Pay by direct debit
It's easy to set up and payments happen automatically on the day of the week, month or fortnight you choose. You don’t need to worry about amending the amount if your rent changes and we'll always tell you at least 10 working days in advance if your payment amount will change.
You can set up a direct debit by:
- calling us on 0114 293 0000 (you will need your bank details)
- or completing the Direct Debit form and emailing it, or a scanned copy or screenshot, to homesrentincome@sheffield.gov.uk
Pay online or by phone
To make additional payments to your rent account:
- call our automated payment line: 0114 273 5249 (available 24/7)
- or pay online
Difficulty paying your rent
If you're struggling to pay rent, we can help. Find out more on help paying your rent.
Former tenants who owe rent arrears
We will pursue this debt until it is cleared using a range of methods, including:
- telephone calls to your home
- letters to your new or last known address
- contact with a family member or employer
- Debt Collecting Agencies, who will visit you at your new address
- tracing agents if we do not know your new address
If you leave a Sheffield City Council tenancy with rent arrears on that property, you must call us to make an affordable repayment plan. If you don’t, we may take further action and disqualify you from the Housing Register.
Further information can be found on our Arrears and court action page.
The general theme is a bigger emphasis on prevention and support, as well as encouraging people to pay their rent by Direct Debit. Your feedback is important to us – complete our short survey.
