Designated Public Place Orders

The Designated Public Place Order (DPPO) in Woodhouse was reviewed by the Licensing Committee. Members were of the opinion that the DPPO is having a positive impact on reducing alcohol related anti-social behaviour/disorder in the area.

Since the implementation of the Woodhouse DPPO in April 2011, a new park has been created on the boundary of the area covered by the Order called Tannery Park.

Residents and businesses in Woodhouse were consulted as to whether the Order should be extended to include the park to allow the Police to use their powers to address public nuisance or annoyance associated with the consumption of alcohol.

The outcome of the consultation showed that people in the area welcomed the extension and the extension has now been approved.

A Designated Public Place Order (DPPO) has been made for Shiregreen effective from 1 June 2011. 

We consulted with residents and businesses in the area the Order would affect between February and March 2011 using the following methods:

• a newspaper advert was published in the Sheffield Telegraph on 24 February 2011
• a webpage on the Sheffield City Council website
• a flyer was created and distributed to residents and businesses in the vicinity of the Order
• Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers from the Shiregreen Safer Neighbourhood Team explained the impact of the order to residents and businesses operating in the vicinity of the Order
• petitions were circulated in the area
• officers addressed local tenants and residents' meetings and local community assembly meetings
