Did you know that by simply turning off your engine you can help to reduce asthma, heart disease and lung cancer?
Sheffield is an amazing, vibrant place, with all the hustle and bustle you would expect at the centre of a truly global city. However, Sheffield suffers from some of the worst air pollution in the country. Vehicle idling contributes to premature deaths and health issues in Sheffield. If everyone makes a small change, it will help make a BIG difference.
Sign the #dontidle pledge to show your commitment to improve air quality in Sheffield and make a big difference.
About engine idling
Sheffield suffers from some of the worst air pollution in the country. With 2.7 billion kilometres driven in the city each year, road transport is its biggest single source of air pollution. We want to take action to improve the air quality for our community and its visitors, by eliminating engine idling from the areas of highest pollution in the city. It’s an issue that affects everyone, so everyone should care.
We can help reduce the number of idling vehicles by encouraging drivers to minimise or stop idling when stationary through an informative chat, and interactive and engaging resources. We will be holding a meeting soon where you can find out how you can make a difference in your local community by becoming an air quality champion.
