The Sheffield Playing Pitch Strategy is an up to date assessment of playing pitch provision in the City. It forms part of our response to the requirements of Planning Policy Guidance Note 17 (PPG17). It has been undertaken in accordance with the methodology detailed in Towards a Level Playing Field (Sport England, 2003), assessing the supply, demand and quality of pitches for a number of sports. The findings are presented on a sport by sport and on a Community Assembly basis.
The Strategy identifies current levels of provision in the area and compares this with current, and likely future, levels of demand. It identifies areas in need of new or improved facilities and areas where pitches may be available for other uses. The assessment will aid in the development of future planning policy and allocation of playing pitches, whilst also helping to support bids for external funding.
This update builds on the 2005 Strategy and has been completed with the input of Sport England and the National Governing Bodies for the sports that are covered.
An up-to-date assessment of the quantity and quality of playing pitches across the Sheffield, and analysis of how this compares to the demand for pitches for a number of sports.
