We appointed Strategic Leisure to undertake a citywide audit of Open Space, Sport and Recreational facilities in 2007. The audit was undertaken in accordance with the methodology set out in Planning Policy Guidance Note 17 (PPG17) and its companion guide.
The audit considered the provision of a range of open spaces across the city and provides a snapshot of its quality, which is assessed using criteria that relate to the national Green Flag award.
The audit is not policy in itself, but it will be used as an evidence base to inform the delivery of policies in the Sheffield Development Framework. The evidence provided has also been used to inform our Green and Open Space Strategy, and will act as a starting point to guide future investments in open space. Importantly, the audit findings act as a baseline from which more detailed citywide and local analysis can be undertaken.
This assessment provides evidence relating to the quantity, quality and accessibility of a broad range of open spaces across the city.
This audit and survey was conducted between November 2007 and June 2008.
This review included a comprehensive review of key strategic plans.
