Newfield School is a successful 11-16 comprehensive school that sits at the heart of the locality we serve.  We have a diverse community and have an excellent reputation across the city.  Ofsted have rated us a good school and we continue to work hard to be truly exceptional.  We work hard on behalf of our students and families and often go ‘above and beyond’ through our dedication and commitment to providing a safe and happy learning environment.
We believe that Achievement Leads to Opportunity and Choice and this is underpinned by our values:
•    We are high performing because we are curious and have a thirst for knowledge.
•    We are considerate and value our community.
•    We succeed through commitment and relentless ambition.
In the classroom we follow Rosenshine’s Principles and Teach Like a Champion to guide our pedagogy.  We explicitly teach knowledge, interleaving retrieval through our curriculum schema. We therefore look for teachers and staff who are skilled in engaging students though their passion for their subject.

The Role

Newfield School is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and skilled Art and Photography Technician starting as soon as possible.
You will be responsible for the organisation of Art and Photography equipment, ordering stock and materials, ensuring they are readily available for teaching staff and students. The Art & Photography Technician plays a crucial role in the everyday running of the departments; planning materials for upcoming projects, keeping the art rooms and displays in working order and ensuring stock rooms are replenished, clean, tidy and in order, taking part in department meetings and liaising with site staff.
You will be responsible for the safe maintenance of materials ensuring all hazardous materials and equipment are supervised.  You will ensure that all art and photography areas are tidy, including storing for student work, well-kept and compliant with health and safety regulations, monitoring and organising materials.

The Art and Photography Technician provides support to department staff preparing materials for classes, examinations and visiting moderators.  Familiar with schemes of work and artistic mediums your expertise will be essential in providing hands-on support to teaching staff and students during practical lessons.  You will assist or supervise pupils in small groups or on a 1:1 basis, offering guidance or specialist knowledge as required.
You will oversee many crucial roles that keep our departments running smoothly.   You will have a keen interest in art and photography and be able to devote your working time to improving the outcomes of our department.

The Candidate

•    You will be able to prepare and use specialist equipment, resources and materials as required in a timely manner.
•    You will ensure compliance with health and safety legislation to facilitate a safe working environment.
•    You will have strong interpersonal skills with both adults and students.
•    You will be able to demonstrate and assist others in safe and effective use of specialist equipment and materials.
•    An Art & Photography background is not essential, however a graduate in an aspect of Art or Photography practice would be desirable or knowledge and experience of the creative arts and creative processes.
•    Previous experience in photography, particularly in a school or portrait photography setting is highly desirable.
•    Experience of operating digital cameras and Adobe Photoshop.
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
•    Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment, while maintaining a high level of professionalism.

Newfield School is committed to the growth and development of its staff. You will have access to opportunities for ongoing training and professional development, allowing you to enhance your skills and advance in your career. At Newfield School we promote a supportive and inclusive working environment. You can expect to work with colleagues who are dedicated to providing a positive and nurturing atmosphere for both staff and students.

Mercia Learning Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.  If you are shortlisted, your suitability to work with children will be explored, and this will include disclosing convictions. The information you disclose may be discussed with you during the interview.
