Bins and recycling

How to dispose of waste if your household has coronavirus symptoms

  • place personal waste (face coverings and tissues) and cleaning cloths securely in a rubbish bag
  • place this bag in another rubbish bag, and tie securely
  • keep separate from other waste for 72 hours and then place in your black bin
  • do not take this waste to your local recycling centre


Births, deaths, marriages and citizenship

  • registering deaths will be done over the phone, book an appointment online  www.sheffield.gov.uk/death
  • registering a birth is done in 2 parts, you need to be available 2 consecutive days, a registrar will call you then you need to attend the office to complete the registration, book online www.sheffield.gov.uk/birth

Ceremonies

  • civil marriages and civil partnerships can take place fully outdoors or under a partially covered structure if this has at least a 50% open area within the grounds of approved premises. The change applies to existing approved premises. Venues will be under no obligation to offer outdoor proceedings
  • Loxley room ceremonies will be allowed 15 guests, this does not include the couple or registrars. It does include a photographer and children over 5 years
  • Arundel, Norfolk and Hallam room will be allowed 48 guests, this does not include the couple or registrars. It does include a photographer and children over 5 years
  • guests should wear face coverings while moving around the building, once seated they can be removed

Citizenship

  • you are not allowed to bring a guest to your ceremony
  • there are currently no dignitaries attending ceremonies
  • new citizens should wear a face covering whilst moving around the building, once seated they can be removed

EU Settlement Scheme

  • we're not offering face to face appointments

Housing

Council Housing

  • First Points, Howden House and Sheffield Property Shop are open for limited, pre-booked appointments. Call 0114 293 0000 to request a face-to-face meeting
  • we'll prioritise emergencies and complex cases only so please use our online services where possible
  • our other housing offices remain closed for now
  • properties available for let will continue to be advertised on the Sheffield Property Shop website. You can bid, make an accompanied viewing and sign up for a property if successful. Visit the Sheffield Property Shop
  • we are continuing to process and complete Mutual Exchanges during this time but some of these processes may take longer than normal
  • get help and advice on paying your council housing rent
  • access non-urgent services online at www.sheffield.gov.uk/councilhousing

The Council Housing Older People’s Independent Living (OPIL) Service

  • Neighbourhood Officers are in regular contact with tenants via telephone or intercom to provide information, advice and support
  • communal lounges and kitchens remain closed
  • laundry sites are open and available for tenants to use

Housing support

  • if you don’t feel safe where you currently live, contact South Yorkshire PoliceVAS or IDAS
  • if you have nowhere to live and cannot self-isolate, call 0114 273 6306 or 0800 7311 689 after 5pm

Private Housing Standards (private rented housing)

  • we’ll investigate and inspect emergencies about disrepair or illegal eviction where safe to do so
  • non-emergency inspections have resumed. Officers are reviewing open cases and will contact affected parties
  • private landlords must ensure properties meet required standards and keep up to date with government guidance and any changes to the law
  • we’ll roll forward any snug properties which are expiring until we can re-inspect. Contact the universities’ accommodation teams directly if you have questions about advertising with them

Licensing

  • our licensing depot is closed, office and telephone lines are closed until further notice
  • we are maintaining a limited service via email and online enquiry forms at www.sheffield.gov.uk/licensing
  • if you want to deliver documents by hand post them through the depot reception door
  • no public vehicles are permitted to access the depot


Parks, sport and recreation

All parks, green spaces and woodlands are open but parks buildings are closed. Some facilities are affected:

  • cafes (for takeaway only) and car parks are open
  • playgrounds are open
  • all sports functions are open
  • toilets are open at Graves Park Rose Garden, Millhouses Park, Endcliffe Park, Forge Dam, Rivelin Valley, Botanical Gardens, Norfolk Park Centre in the Park
  • Graves Park Animal Farm is open
  • Botanical Gardens Bear Pit and Pavilions are open
  • allotments are open
