Burngreave & Fir Vale Master Plan

Burngreave and Fir Vale formed part of the area covered by the Transform South Yorkshire Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder which ran from 2002 to 2011.

Transform South Yorkshire had 3 objectives:

  1. To radically improve the character and diversity of neighbourhoods.
  2. To improve housing quality.
  3. To increase the range of housing types and tenures.

LDA Urban Design

We commissioned LDA Urban Design to produce the Burngreave Fir Vale Master Plan. LDA worked closely with our officers, local councillors, Transform South Yorkshire and key community groups to produce the Master Plan.

After extensive public consultation, the Master Plan was formally approved by our Cabinet on 25 May 2005.

The document focuses on 6 areas:

  • Spital Hill and Ellesmere
  • Catherine Street
  • Woodside
  • Owler Lane - Skinnerthorpe - Earl Marshal
  • Page Hall
  • Upwell Street

Spital Hill

Some subsequent work for Spital Hill was approved by Cabinet on 25 January 2006 identifying the preferred location for a supermarket.

Although the Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder ended in 2011, the Master Plan is still used to guide regeneration as a material consideration in the planning process.
