Stray Dogs

All stray dogs in the city are our responsibility.

Under Section 68 of the Clean Neighbourhood and Environment Act 2005, the Police will no longer be involved in seizing stray dogs and do not have a duty to accept strays if taken to a Police Station.

Anyone who finds a stray dog must inform us, and has a legal obligation to hand the dog to either its owner or us. If you wish to report a stray dog, or hand in a dog you have found, please contact us.

Fees

If your dog is seized as a stray dog by ourselves, the costs for retrieval are as follows:

  • Day 1 = £62

  • Day 2 = £62

  • Day 3 = £73

  • Day 4 = £84

  • Day 5 = £95

  • Day 6 = £106

  • Day 7 = £117

  • Day 8 = £128

  • Day 9 = £139

  • Day 10 = £150

Everyday thereafter will be charged at £11 per day.

Plus any veterinary treatment required for the dog.

If, after 7 days, the dog has not been reclaimed, it will become our property and may be available for adoption.
