Schools are required to provide an act of daily collective worship for all pupils, these must be wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian character, that is to say, "reflecting the broad traditions of Christian beliefs and values" (not worship practices).
These broad traditions and values are shared by most of the world's major religions and indeed society in general. Schools are encouraged to use materials from all the major faiths and also that which represents non-religious viewpoints.
This is also very important in developing the community ethos, values and family life of the school and in developing care for each other and respect for all. Parents do, however, have the right to withdraw their child.
