A full Council Tax bill is calculated on the basis that there are at least two people (aged 18 or over) living in your home.
If you are the only adult living in the property you can apply for a single person discount to reduce your Council Tax bill.
If you can answer yes to either of the following two questions then you may be entitled to single person discount to reduce your bill by 25%.
If you are claiming a discount because someone has left your home we will need to know where they have moved to. This will help us check your claim.
Please be aware that generally you will not be entitled to single person discount if someone has left your home for a short period of time, or intends to return in the future.

If you are already receiving a discount and another adult moves into the household you must notify us within 21 days, clearly stating the date this change took place.

You may be able to claim a 25% reduction if you live with another person 18 years old or over.
This applies if either you or the other person over the age of 18 years is not counted for Council Tax purposes, for example if you are living with a full time student.
About other discounts.
Households receiving a 25% discount off their Council Tax due to there being only one adult living in the property are being checked.
We award over £24m in discount in these circumstances and it is therefore essential that these awards are reviewed regularly to ensure these are valid and not being claimed in error or fraudulently.
This review is being carried out by Capita Local Government from their offices in Bromley on our behalf and will include data matching with other sources of information including but not limited to the electoral roll and information from the financial sector.
If you have not returned the paper review form or completed the return on line this needs to be done immediately in order for you to continue to receive the 25% reduction in your Council Tax bill. The Council will shortly be issuing review reminder forms where these have not been returned. If the original review form or review reminder form is not returned or completed on line, the discount will be cancelled without further notice. This will be either from the 1st April or the date the discount was first applied.
