Throughout the year, we work with our Learning Destinations to deliver a range of exciting activities and events. At each of these events, children and young people can earn Children's University (CU) credits in a Passport to Learning, as well as take part and learn something new.
During some of the shorter school holidays, we work with our Learning Destinations and partners at the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University, to deliver exciting, free, taster activities at city centre venues. Details of these events will be added here throughout the year.
Passport to Learning Holiday Activity Newsletter
We produce a newsletter for each school holiday, which includes activity information from some of our Learning Destinations.
CU Festival of Fun
Each year, in partnership with our Learning Destinations, we deliver a large programme of 40+ taster activities which happen right across the city at the start of the summer holidays. All the activities are free to take part in, as long as you have a Passport to Learning. Details of these events are added here in early summer.
The Sheffield CU team delivers Forest School programmes and Forest School-type activities to groups of children and young people through their schools.
Activities range from den building, tree climbing and team games, to environmental education, craft activities and cooking on an open fire. Tools such as bow saws, hand drills and knives are used within a controlled environment to create wood craft items such as kazoos, woodland benches and medallions. We can deliver tailored sessions for school staff as well as groups of pupils.
Research has demonstrated that repeated visits to the same woodland site support the development of self-confidence, motivation, concentration and sound social and emotional skills, as well as fostering a love of the outdoors.
If you are interested in our team delivering Forest School sessions to your pupils and staff teams please contact us or see our brochure.
We do not offer open-access Forest School activities for children in holidays, etc. Please visit our Learning Destinations section for details of organisations who deliver these types of activities.
