Sheffield City Council’s Health Protection Service is currently offering certified food hygiene training courses for everyone involved in the food business, from junior staff to senior management.
The course fee is £65 and covers all course materials, a handbook and examination costs. The course lasts 6 hours and is usually split into two afternoons with a written examination at the end.
The course develops an understanding of the basic principles of food hygiene, including:
- definition of food poisoning
- prevention of food poisoning
- personal hygiene
- cross contamination
- food handling techniques
- stock control
- design of premises
- cleaning procedures and sterilising techniques
- pest control
- up to date legislation
- food safety management systems
Successful candidates will be awarded a nationally accredited level 2 certificate in food safety and catering issued by either the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health or the Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance.
