We have a duty to remove any vehicle which is abandoned on any land in the open air, or on any other land forming part of a highway. Abandoning a vehicle is a criminal offence which can carry a maximum fine of £2,500 and/or 3 months’ imprisonment.
We cannot consider a vehicle abandoned just because it is not displaying a valid tax disc.
You can report an untaxed vehicle that you’ve seen on a public road anonymously to DVLA. Your report will be investigated.
Report an abandoned vehicle
You can report an abandoned vehicle to us. Please give us your contact details and as many details as possible about the vehicle, including how long it has been there
Reclaiming a vehicle
All abandoned vehicles will be removed to a compound. If the vehicle carries a Great Britain number plate, we will send a written notice to the registered owner.
Owners can recover their vehicle by providing identification of ownership and paying us removal and storage costs.
Vehicles must be reclaimed within 7 days of the notice, after which time it will be disposed of.
