We are the Council’s employment and skills service. We create employment opportunities and break down barriers to employment, particularly for those furthest from the labour market.
We help businesses grow and develop a skilled, adaptable workforce, enabling them to thrive and support the growth of the local economy.
We can also provide financial incentives for employers to create apprenticeships for disadvantaged individuals.
Employment and Skills Programmes
Our employment and skills programmes are designed to help:
- people facing barriers - individuals who want to start their employment journey but don't know how, including those with disabilities, physical or mental health issues, criminal records, skills deficits and a lack of work experience
- local employers - we offer expert assistance to Sheffield employers, by providing specialist help to access, nurture and retain skilled employees
- developers / contractors - organisations that are seeking to invest in new development projects in Sheffield and create employment opportunities for local people

Our dedicated employment support service helps guide vulnerable and marginalised adults towards and into sustained employment, and promotes the benefits of a more diverse workforce. Programmes are delivered by local partners in the community, voluntary and private sectors.

Skills Made Easy
Our apprenticeship programme encourages and supports the creation of on-the-job-training roles, helping to generate approximately 250 new employment opportunities every year. It also assists employers in navigating the skills system, utilising their Apprenticeship Levy allowance and identifying apprentice candidates who can add value to their business.
Sheffield 100 Apprenticeship Scheme
Our supported apprenticeships scheme incentivises employers to recruit disadvantaged 16-18-year-olds and other vulnerable people who may otherwise encounter difficulties accessing the labour market. Employers can receive a subsidy of £1.75 per hour worked for the duration of the apprenticeship, up to a maximum of two years.
Our Investment Support service works alongside the Council's Planning and Procurement functions, and in conjunction with private-sector contractors, to maximise the social and economic value of new developments. It does this by encouraging the creation and support of new jobs, work placements and apprenticeships.
Construction Design Centre
Our specialist training centre offers an extensive range of construction industry courses, from entry-level learning though to apprenticeships and beyond, to help individuals gain the formal qualifications they need for a successful career.
