City Road and Hutcliffe Wood crematoria

Arrange a cremation at City Road or Hutcliffe Wood Crematorium.

An extensive range of recorded music is available at the crematoria to accompany services, via the Wesley Music system. Please contact us or your funeral director for further advice.

If required, a recording of the funeral service can be provided by prior arrangement with your funeral director, for an additional cost.

 

City Road Crematorium

Location: City Road, Sheffield, S2 1GD

The crematorium, situated within the grounds of City Road Cemetery, was opened on 5 April 1905 by the Lord Mayor, Joseph Jones and was the tenth crematorium to be built in the UK. 

The first cremation took place on 24 April 1905 and to date over 200,000 cremations have been carried out.  It is a traditional building which incorporates two chapels for cremation services.

Facilities at the crematorium include:

  • Induction loops for the hearing impaired
  • disabled access including provision of wheelchair
  • large print and braille service booklets
  • disabled toilet.

The chapels contain either pipe or electronic organs if a more traditional type of funeral service is required.  

 

Hutcliffe Wood Crematorium

Location: Periwood Lane, Sheffield, S8 0HP

Hutcliffe Wood Crematorium is a modern building opened in 1974 and to date over 80,000 cremations have been carried out.

Facilities

Facilities at the crematorium include:

  • Induction loops for the hearing impaired

  • Disabled parking at entrance to chapel
  • Disabled access including provision of wheelchair
  • Large print and Braille service booklets
  • Stair lift to exit of building
  • Disabled toilets.

The chapel contains an electronic organ if a more traditional type of funeral service is required.

For larger funerals, the funeral service can be relayed to the waiting room and chapel entrance.

 

Hutcliffe Wood Garden of Remembrance

Location: Hutcliffe Wood Road, Sheffield, S8 0FA

Adjoining the crematorium is the Garden of Remembrance which opened in 1959.  It extends over 9 acres and includes structured areas of lawns and flower beds, along with informal areas to attract wildlife. 

We offer a range of commemorative memorials which can be placed in the gardens.

The Hall of Remembrance and Columbaria at City Road Cemetery close at 5pm Monday to Friday. Except for Bank Holidays, when they close at the same time as the cemetery.
