Blue Badge: Disabled person's car parking badges

For customers who need further assessment (for consistency of assessment across England). This could mean that applicants who were issued a Blue Badge previously may not now qualify.

Walking disability

The Department of Transport views using an applicant’s GP to verify that an individual meets the criteria for a Blue Badge as unsatisfactory. Therefore we do not accept information from your GP.

You will need to show that:

  • you cannot walk; or
  • you are unable to walk very far without experiencing severe discomfort; or
  • the physical effort needed to walk could damage your health.

The degree of impairment should be similar to that required to claim the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance. Entitlement depends on your difficulty walking, and considerations such as difficulty in carrying parcels cannot be taken into account, the condition also has to be permanent and substantial.

We will contact you by telephone to assess your eligibility against the criteria.

Please contact us if you have any application questions or queries, or anything else you are unsure about:

Apply in person

If you receive any of the following:

  • your completed application form (available to download at the bottom of this page)
  • passport photographs (must be certified on the back using the same criteria as for a passport or driving licence application)
  • fee
  • proof of address
  • proof of identification
  • proof that you are in receipt of any of the above awards

If you do not meet the criteria above then you may need to have a further assessment which can be carried out at First Point on the same day.
